This course focuses on the life and legacy of Abu Hanifa, and surveys the evolution of the Hanafi school in different regions of the Islamic world. It surveys the various traditional sources and tries to separate history from legend. The course particularly focuses on the particular pattern of reasoning that distinguished Abu Hanifa’s fiqh from other methodologies.
