This course offers a guided exploration of Islam’s deep-rooted history in Central Asia, shaped by empires, cultural exchange, and extraordinary scholarship. From the early arrival of Islam to the flourishing of intellectual giants like Imam al-Bukhari, Imam al-Tirmidhi, al-Zamakhshari, Ibn Sina and many more, we trace how Central Asia became a centre of spiritual, scientific, and philosophical brilliance by studying the lives and works of the great scholars this land produced. The course also explores how these lands later fell under the rule of the Russian Empire and Soviet Union, which sought to establish atheism in place of such a vibrant Islamic heritage.
