This course will cover the basic principles of Logic, based on Shaykh Akram Nadwi’s book, Mabadi al-Mantiq (Introduction to Logic). This book is part of a series of primers which introduce students to the Islamic Sciences. Logic is a preliminary discipline which concerns itself with establishing a framework for logical reasoning and argumentation through the development of sound definitions, reasoned statements and proofs. This discipline was advanced by Islamic philosophers, although much of its roots can be traced back to Greek thought. It is associated with the study of Arabic Rhetoric, Usul al-Fiqh and Theology.
